Coen Balkestein Netherlands

With Knisper we connect and help cultivate the ideas of young and inspiring storytellers. Our main activities revolve around producing short animated films and commercials. Our next step is to produce an animated series.

In 2018, I graduated with a BA (With Honours) in animation. I have been selected as a Young Talent at Cartoon Movie 2019 as well as at Cartoon Springboard 2018. In addition, I won the Dutch Film Producer Award in 2018. Recently completed work includes “Speedy the Turtle”, “Relentless” and “Elayne & Mr. Grin” with the animated series “Mystery Delivery” and the projects “Wingman”, “Marc & the Fish” and “Extreme Badminton”, all in development.

Synopsis:

In the underbelly of the future, all the most extravagant vigilantes and daunting creatures on earth make use of one delivery service: Mystery Delivery, a specialised department that delivers all kinds of packages to the most bizarre places in the world. Who would dare to work for such a company? The naive and adventurous Nola and the whimsical, flamboyant Taro, of course! Nola joins Mystery Delivery with the aim of finding her estranged mother, while Taro simply wishes to become a legendary deliverer.

‘As a person who has a tough relationship with my family, and someone who has found a lot of comfort in friends I have met in the last couple of years, I wanted to make a series that shows your true family is not necessarily the one you are born into. This series is about finding the people who make you feel at home and define your place in the universe: not as an end goal, but as a constant process of learning and understanding the true definition of family. Every place the protagonists visit, every package they deliver, every person they meet, tells a new and exciting story. And that is the power of “Mystery Delivery”.’

‘The “Mystery Delivery” team, a total of twelve fellow graduates, has inspired me to choose the path of producer. With this series, I wanted to give them the freedom to come up with a story they would love to create and work on after graduation.
